Police are conducting two separate investigations of an attempted robbery and simple assault in which two victims were struck this past weekend.
On Friday, March 8, three armed, masked suspects forced their way into a dorm room of Deatrick Hall around 1:45 a.m.
According to the university report, the suspects were dressed in black and wearing face coverings and skullcaps,
One of the residents was struck during the incident, but not injured. The intruders searched the room and left without taking any property.
Police did not identify the number of students in the room at the time or the floor on which the attempted robbery occurred.
Several days later, a student was pushed and struck outside of Dixon Hall by the Dixon Market Place.
The victim reported that the suspect, a black male of about 5’10” with short black hair, approached him at approximately 2:45 a.m. on Sunday, March 10.
The university originally titled the crime a strong-armed robbery and stated that the suspect demanded the student’s wallet and cellphone. However, the crime has been reclassified as a simple assault, and the victim has located his property.
It is reported that no robbery occurred.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the KU Police Department.
