The KU Golden Bears football team once again became PSAC champions with their win over California University Vulcans on Saturday, Nov. 17. KU jumped out to an early 7-0 lead on a touchdown pass from quarterback Judd Novak to running back Jaedyn Stewart.

The Golden Bears never trailed in the game. After the Vulcans tied the game at 7-7  in the third quarter, Stewart scored his second touchdown of the game on a 41 yard run to the end zone. KU scored once more to effectively ice the game in the fourth quarter with Stewart’s backfield partner Steven Burkhardt scoring for KU.

While Stewart shined on offense throughout the afternoon, defensive stars such as Freddie Retter were largely quiet for most of the game. Cornerback CJ Brown had some dazzling plays in coverage, keeping the Vulcans to just seven points for most of the afternoon.

In the fourth quarter, Retter made his presence known with a sack that appeared to unlock something for the rest of KU’s defensive front. Retter’s was the first of three sacks and much more pocket pressure that completely derailed the Vulcans’ comeback attempt.

KU continued their undefeated season with their 10th consecutive win. This record puts them soundly in the top tier of the playoff picture ahead of the Sunday, Nov. 18 seeding selection show.
