BLM Week 2026: Celebrating Culture, Unity and Black Excellence

A week of events highlighting the impact and achievements of the Black community

Celebrate culture all week with Black Student Union BLM Week, April 20–26. The events aim to bring together students and campus organizations to recognize and celebrate Black excellence and achievement through a lineup of events.

By partnering with a variety of campus groups, BLM Week highlights the importance of unity and amplifying diverse voices. Below is the list of events held.

Monday, April 20 – BSU x MCC: Field Day
Join BSU and MCC from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on the DMZ to kick off BLM Week with a Field Day filled with outdoor games, music and food. This event creates a welcoming atmosphere for students and community members to connect.

Tuesday, April 21 – BSU x S.A.L.S.A: ICE Walk & Solidarity Protest
At 6 p.m. on the DMZ, BSU and S.A.L.S.A invite you to stand in solidarity during an ICE Walk and protest focused on raising awareness of immigration injustices. This event highlights the shared struggles and experiences of Black and Brown communities while encouraging advocacy and collective action for change.

Wednesday, April 22 – BSU x Tanya Butler & Bryheem Alston: “Are You Prepared?”
From 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the MCC Unity Room, join BSU alongside Tanya Butler and Bryheem Alston for an important conversation on social injustice preparedness. This discussion will explore activism and personal lived experiences related to racial justice, providing insight and tools for meaningful engagement.

Thursday, April 23 – BSU x Frederick Douglass Institute: Book Fair
Stop by the MCC from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. for a Book Fair hosted by BSU and the Frederick Douglass Institute. Browse a wide selection of books that highlight Black authors, history and literature centered on social justice and liberation.

Friday, April 24 – BSU: “Michael” (2026) Movie Premiere
Join BSU for a special outing to see the premiere of “Michael.” Time and location is to be announced. This event celebrates the cultural impact and legacy of Michael Jackson.

Saturday, April 25 – BSU GALA: Black Dandyism
From 7 to 10 p.m. in MSU 218, attend the annual BSU Gala and come dressed to impress in celebration of Black Dandyism. This event highlights style and the rich cultural expression of Black identity.

Sunday, April 27 – BSU: Washington, D.C. Educational Trip
Departing from campus at 7 a.m. and returning around 9 p.m., join BSU for an educational trip to Washington, D.C. This experience offers the opportunity to visit historically significant sites connected to Black history and the Civil Rights Movement.
