The 1970 musical follows Bobby, a bachelor, on his 35th birthday as he reevaluates his life through his relationships with five married couples and three girlfriends. The original production won six Tony Awards, including best musical. The book is by George Furth, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.
The show’s director expressed the show’s relatability to audience members.
“I think audiences can see pieces of themselves in this show,” Scuderi said. “At its core, ‘Company’ is about coming to terms with a part of yourself. Everybody has had to do that at one time or another, and that makes this show relevant to everybody, no matter who you are.”
Music director Bielski said “Company” was the first show she had directed.
“People said I was crazy choosing something by Sondheim to be my first show I music directed,” Bielski said. “I am so incredibly thankful for such a talented and hard working cast, especially with such difficult music like this.”
DeGerolmano communicated her experience in directing with this year’s cast and crew.
“I have loved my experience directing this show,” DeGerolamo said. “I’ve gotten to work alongside such an amazing team of people. Shoutout to Tommy, Grace, Maya and Lynda for helping to create a cohesive vision. The cast and crew have done an amazing job at bringing that vision to life and making the show their own.”
“Company” closes out one of ACT’s most ambitious season yet which in addition to two student written plays, has included mainstage shows like “Almost, Maine,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” and “She Kills Monsters,” all of which focused on different aspects of love and the ways people connect to one another despite the odds.
“‘Company’ is a show that will sneak up on you and pull on your heart strings,” DeGerolamo said. ‘Company’ is all about love. Love is about sacrifice, commitment and companionship. It’s not always easy, but it’s so necessary. Everyone could learn a little something from ‘Company.’”
