The a cappella group Pentatonix will be coming to Kutztown University on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 7:30 p.m in Schaffer Auditorium. Student tickets were available at the student involvement desk for five dollars, but the homecoming weekend performance is now sold out. The evening performance will open with KU’s a cappella group, The Kutztones. This event is co-presented by KU Presents! and the Association of Campus Events.

The Arlington, Texas based group got their start by being the third season winners of NBC’s The Sing-Off. They currently have more than 960,000 subscribers and more than 86 million views on the PTX Facebook Channel. The vocal group is comprised of vocalists Scott Hoying, Kirstie Maldonado, Mitch Grassi, vocal bass singer Avi Kaplan and beat boxer Kevin “K.O” Olusola. The group is well known for their reimagined pop songs as well as their instrument-free cover songs, such as, Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know” and Nicki Minaj’s “Starships.”

Pentatonix’s debut studio album, “PTX Vol. 1,” was released on June 26, 2012. The album charted at #14 in the US Billboard 200 chart and sold 20,000 copies in its first week of release. The group appeared on Access Hollywood, VH1’s The Buzz, Marie, and local television shows to promote their album. Their next album “PTX Vol. 2” is to be released on Nov. 5, 2013 and will have four covers, including Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ “Can’t Hold Us” and Daft Punk’s “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger,” as well as four original songs.

Pentatonix is currently in the midst of their second headlining tour and will be coming to Kutztown following their performance from the University of Alaska’s A Cappella Festivella in Anchorage on Oct. 17. After their KU concert, they begin the European leg of the tour with dates in Amsterdam, Berlin, London, Milan and Paris.

The newly renovated Schaeffer Auditorium is located on Main St. in the heart of the Kutztown University campus. For more information visit http://www.kupresents.org.
