KU wins 2-0, marking its eleventh straight victory

Second-ranked KU field hockey came into its Oct. 4 contest against #6 Bloomsburg with a 10-0 record, which tied KU’s best start since 2007, only one win away from setting a program record for most wins to start a season.
KU had previously picked up wins over #7 Mansfield on Sep. 27 and #4 East Stroudsburg on Oct. 1. The win over East Stroudsburg marked the first time KU took down the Warriors on the road since 2019.

KU’s defense was the story of the game, as they were able to shut out the #2 scoring team in Division II.
The first score of the game came on an athletic play from forward Erin Gonzalez, who deflected a pass from Julia Traynor off the top of her stick into the back of the cage with 12:24 remaining in the first quarter.
That would be all the scoring in the first half, with the next goal coming in the fourth quarter. KU’s Marissa Rice tapped in a shot off a pass from Olivia Kirkpatrick to extend the Golden Bear lead and secure a 2-0 victory against the Huskies.
The game against the Huskies earned KU goalkeeper Tess Adolf PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Week honors, as well as Offensive Athlete of the Week honors for Erin Gonzalez.
“I am so proud of the way we played on Saturday against Bloomsburg. Both teams were 10-0 going into the game,” Coach Marci Scheuing said. “I loved how we competed in a pressure-filled situation and came out on top. Our team is facing adversity in each game and problem solving during the game. It is great to see our growth as we head into the later part of the season.”
KU field hockey will be in action once again on Saturday, Oct. 11 at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
