The Optimist Club hosted its annual Trick-or-Treat on Main Street event on Oct. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. KU student clubs, local organizations, volunteers and businesses lined Main Street with tables handing out candy to Kutztown community members.
About 3,500 to 4,000 community members attended this year’s event.
“We had that last year. We thought we’d have an off year because we hadn’t run it for four years due to COVID-19, but we were wrong,” said John Schmoyer, chairman of the Optimist Club.

Janette, a longtime Kutztown resident and member of the Kutztown Lions Club, said, “It’s fun to get out and see the kids. We do this once a year, and seeing the children grow up, that’s the fun part.”
A costume contest was held at 7:30 p.m., with categories including most original costume, best couples costume and cutest baby.
Jenna Cawley, a member of the Accounting Club who helped run a table, spoke about the benefits of the event regarding the community.
“It helps everyone just get together and enjoy an event, no matter where you live in Kutztown or if you don’t live in Kutztown, but you go to college here,” Cawley said. “It’s just a great way to get together and dress up for Halloween and be festive.”
