Campus roared to life on Thursday morning as the Class of 2029 arrived for their first official day as Golden Bears. Music echoed across the DMZ, where student volunteers from dozens of campus organizations greeted incoming students and their families. Volunteers hauled boxes, directed traffic and offered helpful advice to ease the transition into residence halls.

Across campus, the McFarland Student Union offered a refreshing break from the day’s activity. Students and families lined up for free Rita’s Italian Ice, a welcome treat during a day filled with heavy lifting and long walks.

Rain showers rolled in around 11 a.m., but the drizzle did little to dampen the excitement. Spirits stayed high as freshmen settled in and prepared to start their journey at KU.

“Kutztown has been my number one school for a long time,” a new student from Allentown, Pa., said. “I am really excited to get the fall semester started here.”

The day ended with heartfelt hugs, teary goodbyes and the quiet determination of a new class ready to make its mark. Although Move-In Day is always a daunting milestone, the Class of 2029 is now officially here to stay at KU with years of growth, challenge and opportunity ahead.
