KU offers ways to destress during Mental Health Awareness Month

There are many therapeutic events and activities at KU during May

By John Mahoney

Mental Health Awareness Month, held during the month of May, is here, and with it comes a variety of events and on-campus activities to help students relax, destress, and recuperate before finals. As this is often a stressful time of year, it is especially important to make the effort to ease stress and take time to rest and recharge.

Some of the events and activities being held in May include a butterfly garden, a mental health-related fundraising walk, a finals preparation student workshop, and pet therapy.

On Thursday, May 1, the Office of Student Involvement (OSI) will host a butterfly garden. The event will allow students to feed the butterflies nectar and observe them freely. The butterfly garden will be accessible from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On Sunday, May 4, the National Alliance on Mental Illness Kutztown Chapter (NAMI KU) will hold the 2025 Out of the Darkness Walk. The event will begin at 2 p.m. with a short program prior to the walk and will end at 5 p.m. on the DMZ. NAMI will also be accepting donations during the event.

On Tuesday, May 6, the Center for Student Success will hold a student workshop for finals preparation from 11 to 11:45 a.m. in Academic Forum 203. On Thursday, May 8, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the McFarland Student Union (MSU) lawn, the Kutztown University Activities Board (KUAB) will hold a pet therapy event for anyone looking to destress with animals from the Peaceable Kingdom Petting Zoo.

In addition to upcoming events and activities, counseling services are always available in Beck Hall 122. To register for a consultation, call (610) 683-4072 or schedule in person.

Do your best to ensure a safe and stress-free end to the semester and remember that your health and well-being should always be your number one priority.
