KU’s four match winning streak came to an end Friday with a 7-36 loss against Mercyhurst University. The usual aggression KU students and faculty have come to expect from the Golden Bears couldn’t rival against the Lakers.
Two late match wins saved the men from complete domination. Sophomore Colin Schildt executed KU’s first win of the day. At 184 pounds, Schildt added a fifth win to his current season record. in an 8-7 decision over Mercyhurst’s Angelo Bortoluzzi. The win also added an eighth victory to Schildt’s career.
Shortly after Schildt’s win of the day, senior Brandan Clark added KU’s second win at 197 pounds. A 10-0 victory led to a major decision against Mercyhurst’s Jamar Henry. Clark now holds a 13-2 season record.
However, eight losses buried KU under a crushing Mercyhurst score. The Golden Bears look forward to their next match at the Super Region 2 Duals in Hartsville, S.C. this Saturday. KU will compete in four dual matches against Anderson University, UNC Pembroke, Belmont Abbey and Newberry.
