By: George Fladeland ERIE, Pa – Two PSAC division heavyweights squared off on the hardwood Wednesday night in Erie, Pennsylvania. The Golden Bears traveled to Gannon University with a two game winning streak, but couldn’t find a way to keep up in the second half for a 76-61 loss. Kutztown (10-6, 7-3 PSAC) started the game on fire. After a 10-0 run to start the game, it looked like the Golden bears had the confidence to defeat the Golden Knights for the second time in 13 meetings. However, Gannon (10-5, 9-1 PSAC) had other plans by going on a 15-3 run to make the score 15-13 early in the first half. In the second half of play, the game was knotted 45-45 with 11:45 left to play. The Golden Knights nearly doubled the Golden Bears’ production with a 31-16 run in the final 10:35 of the game. The Golden Bears couldn’t keep up in the second half due to their 38 percent shooting from the field and 52 percent from the foul line. Tynell Fortune scored a game high 25 points even after picking up two fouls in the first five minutes of the game. However, Fortune struggled from the foul line. Fortune normally shoots higher than 85 percent from the foul line, but in this game he went 7-12. Tyler Brooks scored 15 points and played all but one minute of the game for the Golden Bears. Josh Johnson struggled with four personal fouls, but was able to pick up 9 points. Three of Gannon’s starters scored double digits while the team shot 51 percent from the field. Gannon’s Adam Blazek had an efficient game on the offensive side of the ball. He was 3-4 from three-point land and 6-8 from the field and 2-3 from the foul line to earn 17 points. Even though the Golden Bears lost to Gannon, they are still tied for first place in the PSAC East. East Stroudsburg lost Wednesday night to keep the teams even with 7-3 records in conference play. The next game for the Golden Bears will be on Saturday January 10th at 3:00 PM in the Keystone Arena.
