The men’s KU rugby pack roared against competition this past weekend in the Frostbite Tournament, a two-day event held in Lancaster, Pa, from Feb. 28 to March 1. The Golden Bears placed third in the tournament with a combined record of eight wins and one loss between the first and second sides, highlighting the program’s competitive edge and momentum as it continues its spring season.
The first side finished the tournament with a 5-1 record, securing two victories over Rio Grande by scores of 26-5 and 21-7. They also earned dominant wins against Niagara (49-7), Curry College (56-0) and Mary Washington (33-0). Junior scrum half Jacob Stelluti was named the first-side tournament MVP after scoring seven tries.
The second side recorded an undefeated 3-0 record, defeating Millersville 62-0, Bucknell 32-0 and Rowan 54-0. They won all three matches without allowing a single point. Sophomore Ben Parkinson was named the tournament’s second-side MVP for his exceptional play and impact on the field.
Men’s rugby begins its spring sevens season with strong confidence following early performances and preparation throughout the week. The Golden Bears now look to carry that energy to Charlotte as they take on another test in their campaign.
The Queens Cup will take place on Saturday, March 7, in Charlotte, N.C., bringing together talented collegiate programs from across the region. The tournament provides KU an opportunity to test its skills, build momentum early in the spring season and continue showcasing the program’s competitive strength on a larger stage.
