On Wednesday, April 9, twelve KU Honors students attended a formal, multi-course dinner with Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence Dr. Manjula Srinivas in the Viewpoints Room of South Dining Hall, where they engaged in an evening of conversation, cultural exchange, and professional insight.

Dr. Srinivas, a leading media educator from India with over 30 years of experience in journalism, academia, and the Bollywood film industry, is in residence at KU’s Department of Cinema, Television and Media Production for the Spring 2025 semester. Her visit is part of the U.S. Department of State’s Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence program.

The dinner, themed “Campus Life to Real Life: How to Learn What College Won’t Teach You and Succeed,” encouraged open discussion about post-graduation challenges, career adaptability, mentorship, and global citizenship. Over Indian-inspired appetizers, entrées, and dessert, students asked questions about navigating industries that rarely follow a straight path and how to build fulfilling careers in a changing media landscape.

“The entire night was full of enriching knowledge,” senior Gina Glantz said. “Dr. Srinivas spoke about continuous education and how to market ourselves as professionals, which is helpful as I’m graduating in a few weeks. Not only that, but I tried Indian food for the first time and enjoyed learning about the culture’s cuisine.”

Dr. Srinivas began the evening by sharing personal reflections on her journey from student to scholar, emphasizing the importance of skills gained outside the classroom. Her remarks set the tone for a deeper dialogue about lifelong learning and self-defined success.

The event was organized by the Honors Program as part of its mission to connect students with scholars and professionals from around the world. Dietary accommodations were provided to ensure a welcoming and inclusive experience.

Dr. Srinivas has been recognized with multiple awards for excellence in teaching and leadership, including the Women Super Achiever Award and the Best Professor in Media Award. According to Dr. Bradley Shope, dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts, her presence at KU has offered students “a truly global perspective that strengthens learning across the campus.”
