The Golden Bears women’s field hockey team prevailed over Millersville University on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at Andre Reed Stadium. They defeated the Marauders 2-0, improving their record to 12-4.

After a tough first quarter, the Bears came together in the second to make the game 1-0 with a goal scored by sophomore midfielder Jessica Traynor (#31). Traynor got the assist from freshman midfielder Marlee Fetrow (#25), deflecting the pass into the goal cage right past the goalie. It was Traynor’s sixth goal of the season.

The Lady Bears continued to dominate the second half of the game as senior forward Megan Doyle (#32) swept the ball into the cage with a nice open shot towards the corner of the goal. This was also her sixth goal on the season, making the final score 2-0.

When asked about their team’s progression throughout the season and their focus on the NCAA championship, Doyle said, “Losing three games in a row was our low point and we are really turning it around. We are on the upswing for the season.”

In addition, she said the most challenging part of this game is that Millersville is a “very physical” team. “Millersville is a very physical team and having our last game with them go into overtime, we worked to make it a different game,” Doyle said.

The Bears next game is against Roberts Wesleyan, scheduled for Andre Reed Stadium on Nov. 2.
