KU junior, Ethan Briggs and his ambitious goals for Spring 2023

Ethan Briggs is in the process of creating an organization to help aspiring writers

Ethan Briggs is a KU junior student who is an aspiring writer in fiction work. During his time at KU, he had gotten the idea to create an organization where students can share their work with fellow writers.

Ethan explained his hopes for the club and what it would look like, “I thought a group could have fun and write short stories together. It would be good to practice and to bounce ideas off of each other because that’s how new ideas are formed.”

Ethan added, “For anyone who may want to pursue writing, do it on the side as a hobby to start. Writing solely for monetary reasons leads to a lack of passion for your work and poor results.”

The club is currently using the placeholder name “Authors Club” and is set to be officialized as official KU club by Spring 2024.

Ethan initially was an Accounting Major, and over the course of his time on campus, he switched majors to English.

In the wake of switching majors, Ethan learned that, “Consistency and making a schedule that works for you is a great way to keep on track with your classes. Set aside an hour or two before bed or right after class and finish an assignment or two.”

Once Ethan graduates, he intends to enter the business of scriptwriting or publication while he also continues to hone his craft for his personal projects on the side.

Upon reflection Ethan said, “I’m most thankful for meeting an older friend of mine who opened a lot of doors into college life for me, such as my current job at the MSU, the friend group I’m in now, and helping me work up the courage to talk to new people the way I do.”

While Briggs works at the MSU, he is also the president of the upcoming Authors Club, and is working diligently to balance his job at the MSU, his duties as Club President, and his studies for his degree.

Ethan’s home is from a town notable for its coal mining, Ashland Pennsylvania and he is a graduate of North Schulkyill High School. And Ethan is also the middle of three siblings. He has a younger sister, followed by himself, and then the oldest sibling being his half-brother.

A piece of wisdom Ethan had said regarding students at KU is to, “Join a club as soon as you can. You’ll meet a lot of people that have the same interests in mind and it’s easier to socialize.”
