Since the beginning of the academic year, KU Radio has been gradually increasing its coverage of KU sports. KU Radio sports coordinator, Josh Tuite, alongside the club’s treasurer, Jack Heym, provided station listeners with live play-by-play coverage of home and away football games last semester.

”KU Radio gives the community of Kutztown the ability to connect to the university, specifically the athletic programs with our coverage. Having the opportunity to provide broadcast coverage of Golden Bear Athletics means a great deal to me.” Said Heym.

This year, KU Radio also had members reporting from the sidelines. Club parliamentarian, Mitch Smedley, could be heard assisting the broadcasting crew with sideline coverage.

Alongside Smedley on the sidelines was KU Radio’s media coordinator, James Munster, who films play-by-plays and uploads them to KU Radio’s Instagram during the game.

When asked about the benefits of expanding sports coverage to social media, Munster said,  “Providing play-by-play clips of the game brings an up-to-date visual of what is going on live accompanied by our radio broadcast. This benefits the community and students on campus who couldn’t make the game to give them updates and a recap of what happened. It also helps bring notice to the station through football players reposting the clips.”

KU Radio’s sports coverage doesn’t stop at football games. With basketball season underway, KU Radio’s Sports Coordinator, Josh Tuite, had this to say in regards to basketball coverage.

“For basketball season we cover mainly weekend games.  Wherever the team goes, KUR goes.”
