KU athletic teams have a winning weekend

Football, field hockey, rugby and soccer deliver wins for KU

From Sept. 5-7, KU athletic teams earned wins in football, women’s field hockey, men’s rugby and women’s soccer, reinforcing the Golden Bears’ reputation as a powerhouse in collegiate sports.

Football

On Sept. 4, KU opened its football season with a 41-14 win over Assumption at Andre Reed Stadium in Kutztown, Pa.

The reigning PSAC champions are preparing for their next game away on Sept. 13 at Sox Harrison Stadium against Edinboro Fighting Scots at 1 p.m.

Field Hockey

KU’s women’s field hockey team went undefeated this past weekend, starting the season 3-0. The Golden Bears opened with a 9-2 win over Southern New Hampshire on Sept. 4 at Andre Reed Stadium. They then traveled to Mansfield, Pa., for the Mansfield Tournament, where they defeated Southern Connecticut State on Sept. 6 and Saint Michael’s College on Sept. 7.

The Golden Bears will face Wingate University in their next home match on Sept. 13 at 11 a.m. at Andre Reed Stadium.

Rugby

Ku’s men’s rugby first XV opened the season with a 29-26 win over Thomas More Saints on Sept. 6 in Crestview Hills, Ky. The victory moved KU to 1-0. Loosehead prop Sean Malfara was named forward of the match, and fly-half Giorgi Kuparadze earned back of the match honors.

The men’s rugby team is back in business, getting ready for their first home game matchup against Wheeling University on Sept. 13 at 12 p.m. at Luckenbill Pitch in Kutztown, Pa.

Women’s Soccer 

The Kutztown women’s soccer team opened the season with a 2-0 record this past weekend. They defeated Concord University 4-1 on Sept. 4 at Concord’s Mountain Lion Soccer Field in Athens, W.Va., and followed with a 5-0 win over Mansfield University on Sept. 6 at Mansfield’s soccer field in Mansfield, Pa.

The Golden Bears will play their first home game of the season on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Keystone Soccer Field in Kutztown, Pa., against Millersville University. With their undefeated 2-0 streak, the Golden Bears prepare to keep their momentum going as they head into the season.
