The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) has launched the Grow Pennsylvania Scholarship Program, designed to provide financial assistance to students pursuing degrees in fields critical to Pennsylvania’s workforce. This scholarship offers up to $5,000 per year to eligible students enrolled at approved institutions, including KU. The initiative aims to make post-secondary education more affordable and accessible, supporting students who wish to contribute to the state’s economic growth through high-demand occupations.

To qualify for the Grow Pennsylvania Scholarship, students must meet several criteria. Applicants must be Pennsylvania residents, enrolled at least half-time in a program of study that is at least two academic years in length, and actively pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree at approved institutions like KU. Students must also maintain satisfactory academic progress as defined by PHEAA. The program focuses on fields such as healthcare, education, business, engineering, computer science, and criminal justice—areas essential to Pennsylvania’s workforce needs.

Students must commit to living and working in Pennsylvania in an in-demand occupation for at least one year for every year they receive the scholarship. Failure to meet this requirement will result in the scholarship converting into a loan that must be repaid. Applicants who have already earned a bachelor’s degree, are in default on an educational loan, or have exceeded the maximum number of PA State Grants are ineligible. Additionally, all applicants must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the designated deadlines.

KU students who are interested in applying for the Grow Pennsylvania Scholarship should act quickly. The scholarship is available on a first come, first served basis, with applications accepted until April 15, 2025. The Grow Pennsylvania Scholarship provides an excellent opportunity for students who want to pursue a meaningful education while contributing to the state’s economy.
