By The Keystone Newspaper Fall 2024 showcase theme is “Dance Your Heart Out” and will feature eighteen dance performances

The Fall 2024 Golden Bear Dance Company (GBDC) showcase, “Dance Your Heart Out,” is slated to occur Sunday, Nov. 10 at 3 p.m. in Schaeffer Auditorium. Doors will open at 2:15 p.m., with $5 tickets for KU students and $8 general admission tickets.

The eighteen performances by GBDC will include styles in jazz, tap, contemporary, hip-hop, ballet, musical theater, Latin jazz, lyrical, modern, and heels. Each routine will feature various emotions expressed through dance, such as anger, fear, joy, or love.
GBDC is run by an Executive Board including senior president Haley Afif, senior vice president Beneily Ramirez, senior secretary Riley Goshow, senior treasurer Alexandra Skidmore, junior public relations chair Angel Mincey and junior recruitment chair Anna Estrada.
Each routine is choreographed by a student member, and students range in ability from novice to advanced. Rehearsals for the show began in early September, and continue every week until showcase day.
Preparation for the show has been in the works since February of 2024.
“We pick our showcase date by then as well as the theme for it,” President Haley Afif said. “We also have a showcase meeting for our members to hear what is expected, the schedule, and hair and makeup.”
Other tasks completed by the E-Board include ordering costumes, making programs, ordering lunches for company members, preparing decorations, as well as coordinating with a photographer and videographer.
The club also relies on volunteers at the event to help raise money for future club performances.
“We have volunteers at the event who run our raffle basket sale, kiss-the-cast, flowers, lighting, and even getting the stage floor ready to dance on,” Afif said.
The most important element of preparing for the show, though, is the dedication put forth by the E_Board leaders, choreographers, and company members.
“We truly couldn’t do it without everyone,” Afif said.
