Team wins first playoff game

KU Golden Bears women’s rugby team, or as they like to refer to themselves, the “Lady Bears,” made their mark against University of Mary Washington, beating the Eagles 70-14 and advancing to the next match-up of the playoffs.
According to the women’s rugby team’s Instagram page, the woman of the match goes to inside center, Nicole Parker, as she and the rest of the team led the Lady Bears to victory on Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Luckenbill Field.
Honorable mentions of the game included “B!tch of the P!tch” going to second row lock, Juliza Rodriguez, forward of the match going to loosehead prop, Cydney Krause, and back of the match going to fly half, Jenna Wilson.
There were a total of ten try scores with the left wing, Bella Cimino, and the right wing, Emily Duff, being tied with the most try scores of three each in the game. This was followed by outside center, Alexa May, and the number 8, Kassidy Kostick, with two try scores each.
The Lady Bears are preparing for their next playoff match against the winner of the women’s rugby match-up, University of Maryland vs University of Delaware, which took place on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024.
The winner of the University of Maryland vs University of Delaware match will later face the Lady Bears on a to-be-determined date. Students can follow the KU women’s rugby team’s Instagram page for updates.
