Aims to Rally Support for Playoff Bound Athletic Programs
By Mitchell Smedley
On November 7th, the KU office of University Relations announced that President Hawkinson has declared Friday, November 10th, School Spirit Day at KU. In the email sent out to the campus community, university relations urged faculty, students, staff, and all members of the community to wear their maroon and gold in support of the various teams competing in high stakes games this weekend. The email began, “As our Golden Bear athletic teams compete in the playoffs this weekend, let’s cheer them on and show our support by showing our school pride.”
The games begin Friday evening at 6 p.m. with the KU Women’s’ Soccer Team hosting the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championships at Keystone Field. Two semi-final games will be played Friday, followed by the championship game on Sunday at 1 p.m. On Saturday, all eyes will be fixed on Andre Reed Stadium for an intense double header of playoff action. The day starts at noon with the KU Football Team facing off against Slippery Rock for the PSAC title. This showdown will be followed by the KU Field Hockey Team playing their first NCAA Tournament game in program history when they face off against Pace University.
To celebrate the weekend, the KU Campus Store will be offering a sale of 25 percent off both in store and online for all KU gifts and apparel Thursday and Friday, November 9th and 10th. In addition, the KU Instagram page will be running a giveaway for a KU Campus Store gift card.
In such a momentous time for KU athletics, University Relations compelled everyone to “wear your maroon and gold proud”.
