The KU football team opened up their 2015 season against Assumption at Andre Reed Stadium on Sept. 5.
The game was an offensive coordinator’s dream, as the Golden Bears put up an impressive 545 total yards on offense, with 367 yards coming through the air from quarterback Chad Barton.
While KU dominated early on, Assumption fired back in the third quarter, scoring three unanswered touchdowns to take the lead.
In a closely fought fourth quarter, with both teams trading scores, Assumption was able to outscore the Golden Bears, defeating them in their first game of the season.
KU football traveled to Indiana, Pa. to face the IUP Crimson Hawks on Sept. 12, in what would be KU’s first victory of the season, edging out a 34-33 victory.
Throughout the first half, KU struggled to establish an offensive presence, scoring only one touchdown until late in the third quarter.
With a little under five minutes left in the third, the Golden Bears started to find a rhythm on offense, scoring two touchdowns, before IUP answered with one of their own early on in the fourth.
Chad Barton then led the Golden Bears in two successful scoring drives, throwing touchdowns to Kodi Reed and Kellen Williams, respectively, to lead KU to their first win of the season.
