ACE took Kutztown students to New York City on Saturday, Nov. 2. Those who purchased tickets for the trip had the option of wandering the streets of Manhattan, or going to see Annie on Broadway. The show was performed at the Palace Theatre and tickets started at $79. Junior, Siera Wilson, said there were about 45 KU students and the play was two hours.

Wilson, a coordinator on ACE, embraced the opportunity to see the Broadway show. She said that she expected it to be exactly like the movie, but it turned out to be a different story.

“The play differentiated from the movie in many ways,” said Wilson. Annie’s dog, Sandy plays a major role in the movie. However, the dog was only in the play for a short period of time. Wilson said that the biggest difference is the way the play ends. “In the movie, Daddy Warbucks gives Annie to Miss Hannigan’s brother and girlfriend. Annie later discovers their plan and runs away,” she said. “The play ended with a Christmas scene.”

Fans of the movie enjoyed the singing during the play. Actors performed the songs, “It’s a Hard Knock Life,” “Together At Last” and “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile.”

Those who went to the show also had the chance to enjoy the city. When students arrived, they ventured off for lunch, went shopping, and walked around. Wilson said, “After I got food, I went to the show and then went shopping.”

She said her favorite part of the play was Sandy, the dog. According to the Huffington Post, trainer William Berloni unveiled the two-year old female terrier mix after she was rescued from a city pound in Houston.

KU students who accompanied Wilson were Taylor Richardson, Sadie Sink, Faith Prince, Anthony Warlow, Emily Rosenfeld, Gaby Bradbury, Amaya Braganza, Kirsten Wyatt and Clarke Thorell.
