On Thursday, April 17, Essence Fine Arts and Literary Magazine held a launch party for its 2025 issue in the Rohrbach Library Brick Lounge. The event, which ran from 7 to 9 p.m., welcomed students, faculty, staff, and community members to celebrate the newest edition of the publication.
The evening featured live readings by contributors whose work appears in the 2025 issue, including original poetry, short fiction, and other creative pieces. An open mic session followed, allowing additional students and guests to share their own work in a supportive environment.
“We had a great turnout,” Essence President Sarah Haines said. “It’s important to celebrate the little things and create new traditions. Essence has influenced a majority of my college experience, and it makes me happy when the magazine can make other people feel special.”

Free copies of the 2025 issue were distributed, and refreshments were provided throughout the evening.
