2025 Shoofly authors read their stories aloud
By Bethany McDonald
Shoofly Literary Magazine will host its annual launch party for the magazine’s 2025 edition on Thursday, May 1 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the President’s Room of the McFarland Student Union (MSU) 250. The event is open to all students and faculty.
The launch party will feature live readings from this year’s selected contributors, whose published pieces span poetry, short fiction, and drama. Attendees will receive a copy of the new issue and can enjoy complimentary pizza and snacks.
“The poetry is absolutely phenomenal this year, and I’m sure it will be even more incredible to hear it out loud,” Editor-in-Chief Jessica Walker said. “I am excited to see the physical copy in person.”
Shoofly is a student-led literary magazine that operates throughout the academic year, with its editorial staff curating and editing submissions for publication.
The 2024–2025 executive board includes Editor-in-Chief and Head of Poetry Jessica Walker, Head of Fiction Siobhan Houghton, Head of Copy Editing Fern Theobaldo, and Head of Public Relations Liz SwopeIf.
Students interested in joining Shoofly during the 2025–2026 academic year are encouraged to visit the organization’s table at the 2025 Fall Involvement Fair. Shoofly holds meetings every other Thursday at 11 a.m. in Lytle 212 and welcomes new members of all majors and experience levels.
Submissions for the 2026 edition will open in early fall. Students may submit up to three pieces—poetry, fiction, or drama—each under 5,000 words. More information is available on Instagram @kushoofly or by emailing shoofly@kutztown.edu.
