By The Keystone Newspaper Golden Bears will face Slippery Rock in regional semifinals

On Saturday, Nov. 23, the KU Golden Bears football team got to rest up and watch the rest of the field battle each other in the regional quarter finals. While KU’s bye ensured they would make it to the semifinal, several formidable opponents found themselves headed home early.

The upset of the week came from Ashland University, the number seven seed, beating University of Charleston, the number two seed. This high scoring affair saw Charleston take the lead with a go ahead touchdown as the clock showed just over a minute remaining of the game. Ashland was not done though, driving quickly down the field to set up a 37-yard field goal as the clock expired. The kick was straight down the middle, sending Charleston, one of the most challenging opponents on KU’s radar, packing after the first round.
In a battle of PSAC teams, California University took down East Stroudsburg University. These were the two teams who played KU the closest this season. If KU and Cal U each win this week, they will meet in the regional final which would once again be a repeat of the PSAC Conference Title Game.
The final game of the day saw Slippery Rock University take down the University of New Haven. This means that KU will face Slippery Rock in the semifinal. Slippery Rock was only able to muster 14 points in the win though. With all metrics suggesting KU’s defense is considerably stronger than New Haven’s, Slippery Rock will certainly have their work cut out for them at Andre Reed Stadium. This game will be a repeat of both last year’s PSAC championship, and Super Region 1 final. KU and Slippery Rock will kick off Saturday, Nov. 30, at 12 p.m.
