Last season, the Kutztown University women’s golf team won six games, a school record for most wins in a single season. On Sunday, the team tied that mark with its sixth victory this season by scoring an invitational-best 655 to win the East Stroudsburg Invitational at Glen Brook’s Golf Club.

The Golden Bears used a score of 318 during Saturday’s first round, a round that was 30 strokes better than second-place West Chester, to jump out to a quick lead. A second-round score of 337 on Sunday propelled the Golden Bears to win No. 6, and no other team shot below 696 during the two-day event.

West Chester finished in second with a final score of 696. Millersville (701) and East Stroudsburg (748) rounded out the remaining teams.

Of the 20 golfers scored, the Golden Bears’ five scorers placed among the top 10. The trio of Devan Everett, Madison Beer and Lauren Smith placed in the top four and were vital to Kutztown’s success.

Everett recorded a first round score of 75, the lowest mark on Saturday. She finished with an 86 on Sunday, bringing her final score to a 161. She was second to Millersville’s Jamie Wharton for the invitational, who finished with a score of 159.

Beer finished right behind Everett, finishing with a final score of 162. She shot a 78 on Saturday (the second best mark of the day) and an 84 on Sunday, earning herself a third-place finish.

Smith put together two very solid rounds en route to her fourth-place finish at the invitational. She shot an 81 on Saturday and followed that up with an 82 on Sunday.

Rounding out the Golden Bears were Kelly Quigley (who placed seventh and shot a 173 for the invitational) and Jackie Clifton (who finished in eighth with a score of 174).

The Golden Bears’ victory over the weekend was their third straight on the season. They previously took first place at the Ursinus Invitational on April 22 and first at the Mike Bello Invitational (LeMoyne) on April 12 and 13.
