The Kutztown women’s lacrosse team was not quite as hot as the weather on Saturday afternoon. The team lost to the seventh-ranked Indiana University in the PSAC matchup from University Field.
After IUP’s win, the team is the highest ranked school in the conference. KU won their first conference game last week against the Millersville Marauders, but could not continue that winning streak.
The Crimson Hawks played offense on another level, scoring seven goals in the first fifteen minutes of the game. Devan Davis connected on an open shot which finally got KU on the board.
IUP scored four in a row shortly after. Kutztown junior Jillian Spencer scored her 27th goal of the season to finish off the half, which was assisted by Cara Lord.
With 8:35 left in the game, Spencer was able to find Taylor Sandis for the final goal of the game for the Golden Bears.
Spencer and Davis led the team with two goals apiece. Goalie JoAnn McLaughlin stayed in the net for 45 minutes and had 12 saves. At the end of the game, freshman goalie Abby Cox finished with four saves.
For IUP, Brittney Palardy and Drew Hayden were the stars of the game. Palardy recorded six goals while Hayden had 5 to go along with her two assists. Alex Edwards, Kim Hooven and Brenna Gallagher had two goals apiece. Sarah Ward, Kiera Huntsman and Carussa Smith each scored one.
KU will head out for a three-game road trip, which begins against Mercyhurst on Friday, April 18 at 11 am.
