KU Women’s Soccer breaks top 10 ranking

Lady Bears polled at No. 9 by IWSOC

KU Women’s Soccer moved up to a No. 9 ranking according to a poll from the Intercollegiate Women’s Soccer Association (IWSOC) that was announced on Tuesday, Sept. 27. The thirteen-spot jump came after the Bears earned a 1-0 victory over previously No. 4-ranked West Chester on Sept. 23.

The Bears haven’t broken into the top ten since 2023, but the team’s Head Coach, Erik Burstein, credits this success to what the girls on the team accomplish as individuals.

“I don’t believe there is any one thing that hasn’t contributed to the early success we have had this year,” said Burnstein, “The players on this team are extremely talented, and we have exceptional leadership in place from our returning players.”

Senior Forward, Corinne Morgan, brought the Golden Bears to their 1-0 win over the Rams with a goal in the 29th minute, and senior Goalkeeper, Morgan O’Donnell, held out against West Chester’s offense with five saves.

As the Bears proceed in conference play, Burnstein stresses the importance of sportsmanship and dedication in aiding the team’s continued success.

“The PSAC is one the top Division II women’s soccer conferences in the country, so we will take things one game at a time,” he said, “We deeply respect the teams we play and are fully aware of the quality these teams possess.”

This is KU Women’s Soccer’s fifth shutout of the season. The Bears will compete at home against Bloomsburg on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 12 p.m.
