$40,000 will fund student safety programs

By Astra Zerbe

On March 20, KU announced it had received $40,000 from the Shapiro administration to continue supporting the “It’s On Us” campaign.

KU plans to use the funds to support students by continuing partnerships with organizations on and off campus, including Safe Berks, the LGBTQ+ Resource Center, Title IX programs and Greek Life hazing prevention. The university also aims to partner with the College of Business for Entrepreneurship Week and support the Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) self-defense program.

The “It’s On Us” campaign was founded under the Obama administration, and raises awareness toward sexual assaults, prevention and related issues. The Pennsylvania chapter of the movement, led by Gov. Josh Shapiro and his administration, distributed $1.7 million dollars to 43 Pennsylvania colleges and universities this year and has dispersed nearly $5 million dollars since 2023.
