The KU softball team continues to prove itself as one of the top programs in Division II, recently climbing to No. 15 in the latest national rankings from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). The Golden Bears’ combination of big-time hitting, dominant pitching, and consistent performances in conference play has helped them maintain form from last season and remain top contenders in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).

KU dominantly opened the season, winning 11 straight games, including victories at the University of North Carolina Pembroke Invitational. Their early success caught the attention of the national softball scene, earning them the No. 25 spot in the NFCA Week One poll. Since then, the Golden Bears have continued to stack wins, moving up the rankings while taking on tough PSAC competition.
The Golden Bears showcased their ability to win close games on Friday, March 28, taking two dramatic victories over Bloomsburg University. In the first game, an extra-inning double from junior third baseman Morgan Slomkowski sealed a 2–1 win, while freshman catcher Samantha Paetow delivered a clutch hit in the second game to complete a 3–2 victory. Pitcher Haley Gravish played a crucial role, picking up the win in both games.
Just a day later on Saturday, March 29, KU carried that momentum into a doubleheader sweep of Lock Haven. The offense erupted for a 9–0 run-rule victory in the first game, marking their highest-scoring performance since mid-February. They followed up with a 3–1 win in game two, thanks to standout pitching from Abbey Wagner and Gravish, who continued to solidify herself as a key piece in the rotation.
One of the many reasons for KU’s recent success has been the stellar play of Slomkowski, who was named the PSAC Eastern Division Athlete of the Week on Monday, March 31. Over a six-game span, she hit .450 (9-for-20) with five runs batted in, six runs scored, two doubles, and a home run. Her ability to deliver in clutch situations has made her a leader on the field.
On the mound, Gravish has been nearly untouchable, consistently keeping opponents in check. Whether in relief or as a starter, she has provided the Golden Bears with stability in key moments.
With momentum on their side, KU is in a prime position to keep climbing the national rankings as the season progresses. The team’s ability to win tight games, execute in pressure situations, and rely on standout performances from key players makes them a legitimate threat as postseason play approaches, and they look to return to super regionals and beyond.
As the Golden Bears continue through PSAC play, they will look to further cement their spot as one of the best teams in the country, and they are showing no signs of slowing down.
