Four Monkeys Coffee: Roasting connection into every bean

Make Four Monkeys your go-to spot to pick up signature beverages, responsibly sourced, in-house roasted beans and growing connection.

By Kylie Frain

Four Monkeys Coffee’s previous owners, Chris and Colleen Eugster, had been roasting their own beans for over 10 years. No matter where the United States Navy took Chris, he could never find a cup of coffee that fulfilled him, so he took matters into his own hands. Chris began roasting on a rooftop in Baltimore. Once he moved to Kutztown with his now-wife, Colleen, the two of them built their own 5-pound roaster in their garage. After selling to friends and family, in 2017, Colleen and Chris began formally selling their coffee under the name Four Monkeys Coffee.

Barista  and current owner Jaysa Rosa infuses Four Monkeys Coffee with her own vision while staying true to the values Chris and Colleen poured into every roast. A native of Puerto Rico, Jaysa traveled back to her birthplace to visit farms like Forgotten Forest, where she deepened her connection to the craft. Walking the fields and meeting the farmers, she witnessed firsthand how each step—soil, sun, and care—comes together to shape each bean.

“It’s incredible how much history, passion, and precision go into every cup,” Jaysa said. “Knowing the people and processes behind our coffee makes sharing it with our community even more meaningful.”

Four Monkeys Coffee roasts beans on-site with a unique fluid-airbed roaster. They feature a variety of blends tailored to their customers.

“A lot of people like chocolatey, nuttier flavors. Our most popular roast is ‘The Barrel’ which is a mix of light and dark roast beans,” Jaysa said.

For customers who appreciate a plain, old dark roast, Jaysa offers “The Howler.” Four Monkeys Coffee has a variety of bean blends, featuring rotating specialty blends. Along with the café, Four Monkeys Coffee can be found across Berks County and the Greater Lehigh Valley area. They partner with local cafés and eateries in Kutztown, such as Heart and Heath, as well as local farmers markets, including Local Leaf Market, Eagle Point Farm Market, and Trexlertown Farmers Market. Their beans are also available for wholesale, mail orders, and local pickup orders.

Four Monkeys Coffee is more than just a place to grab a cup of coffee—it’s where creativity brews, connections grow, and everyone is welcome. Under Jaysa’s thoughtful care, Four Monkeys Coffee continues to roast organic beans in small batches on-site, crafting coffee that’s as vibrant and unique as the community they serve. Jaysa is committed to not only serving delicious coffee but also supporting the community that makes Four Monkeys Coffee what it is. One of her first initiatives was a fundraiser with the Kutztown Library, where the library sold her “Friends of the Library Blend.”

“Supporting the library has been such a rewarding experience,” Jaysa said. “It’s amazing to see how coffee can bring people together for such a great cause. The library has always been a special place in Kutztown, and I’m proud to contribute to its growth.”
