On Aug. 21, KU held the virtual Faculty and Staff Convocation and Celebration to honor Jim Clements and Marci Scheuing as coaches of the year. Clements was named the Dr. Dennis Roth Men’s Coach of the Year, and Scheuing was awarded the Dr. Dorthy Moyer Women’s Coach of the Year. Both coaches had won the award one other year, Clements after the 2016–17 season and Scheuing after the 2015–16 season. 

Clements finished his sixth season at KU in 2019–20. The football team won their fourth PSAC Eastern Division title, their second title since 2016. Clements has assembled a 48–20 career record at KU, including consecutive trips to the NCAA Division II Championship in both 2018 and 2019. 

Both the team and individual players have experienced success during Clements’s tenure, setting program records with 14 All-PSAC East selections and nine Don Hansen Football Gazette All-Super Region 1 honorees. Clements holds the highest win percentage of any head coach in program history at (.706) and has a 34–9 record in PSAC games (.791). He earned PSAC and American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and Regional Coach of the Year honors this past season. Clements is  just 13 wins shy of tying George Baldwin’s program record of 61 wins for a head football coach. The Golden Bears have increased their total wins in the last three seasons, while Clements has never had a losing season in 14 years of coaching, between KU and Delaware Valley University.

Scheuing was recognized by KU vice president, Matt Santos during the virtual celebration. KU had a winning season in Scheuing’s seventh year as coach, holding a 15–7 record last fall. The team’s total wins has jumped in each of the last three seasons, while their 15 victories tied for the third most in a season in school history. 

KU defeated six teams this past season who were ranked inside the NFHCA top 10 in 2019. The Golden Bears won their second NCAA postseason game in the program’s history, defeating Southern New Hampshire in a shootout to advance to the Division II national semifinals. KU handed the Golden Rams of West Chester their only loss of the season at the national championship, allowing them to reach the PSAC Championship game for only the second time in school history. Scheuing has averaged more than 11 wins per season since 2013 and has a 78–53 record at the school, currently holding the highest winning percentage by a head coach (.595) in team history.
