KU will continue its Sesquicentennial Celebration at Family Day with movies, sports, music, planetarium shows and fireworks on Saturday, Oct. 3. This daylong event will include activities for students and their families.

Disney Pixar’s “Inside Out” will be shown in MSU 183 at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. According to IMDb, the movie is about a girl who moves from the Midwest to San Francisco, and “her emotions – Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust, and Sadness – conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house, and school.” The movie is rated PG.

Downtown, there will be a spirit strut at 2:30 p.m. Student organizations and offices are invited to dress in KU spirit gear and “strut” from the Kutztown Borough Hall near Dunkin’ Donuts through Main Street to the campus.

Participants of the spirit strut will be led by KU President Kenneth Hawkinson and Mayor Sandy Green, along with a fire truck and police.

An activity tent will be available from 3 to 6 p.m. on the DMZ. Music will be provided by “Paul Plays it All.” Students and families will be able to make their own sesquicentennial cupcakes and tie-dye t-shirts. There will be a photo booth and various games.

Exploding Planets Planetarium will feature shows at 3 p.m., 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the Grim Science Building.

At 6 p.m. there will be a 5K cross country run and 150-yard Dash on the north campus cross-country course. This event is free for children 10 and under. It will cost $25 non-students and $15 for KU students.

For the sports fans, KU field hockey will play Slippery Rock University at 1 p.m. at Andre Reed Stadium, and volleyball will play West Chester University at 1 p.m. in the Keystone Arena.

KU will play Millersville in football at 6 p.m. at Andre Reed Stadium. Tickets are available at the athletic office or at the gate. At halftime, there will also be a Kick for Tuition, and family members can enter a drawing at the Family Day tent from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Immediately following the game will be a fireworks show.

On Saturday, Dixon Marketplace will be open from 10 a.m. to midnight and the KU Campus Store will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
