KU’s women’s volleyball team (13-15, 7-13 PSAC) faced Shippensburg University (15-15, 8-12 PSAC) on Senior Day this past Saturday. It was a good send off for the five Golden Bear seniors who won their final game at Keystone Arena 3-1.

KU is trying to steal the final spot in the PSAC postseason. The Golden Bears are tied for fifth place with Millersville at seven wins, while Shippensburg is tied for third place with West Chester with eight wins. The race is competitive, but the Golden Bears must win and have some luck to have a shot at the postseasonin the PSAC.

Recognized KU seniors: Stacey Edmondson, Chelsea Braga, Danielle Van Buren, Aly York and Kelsey Kromer were addressed during the pregame. The women were given flowers and a framed jersey to celebrate their participation on the team. After receiving their gifts, the Golden Bears went to work and came out on top..

After dropping the first set to Shippensburg 11-25, the Golden Bears came back to win three straight sets for the victory. The second set changed the tone for the Golden Bears, who won the set by a score of 25-23. KUled the game in kills, hitting percentage, points and assists. It was a full team effort with contributions coming from

Van Buren who was on fire in the second set. She finished with a game-high 16 kills and 35 attacks for a team-high .371 hitting percentage. It is the third match this season that she has reached more than 16 kills. Other contributions came from Braga and York. Braga had 17 digs and a block, while York recorded 11 digs and two blocks. Emily Kopinski led the team with three aces and helped with 12 digs according to kubears.com.

The Golden Bears will travel to West Chester on Friday Nov. 7th at 7 p.m. and then to Cheyney the next day with hopes to clinch the final spot for postseason action in the PSAC.
