Eckhaus, Kutztown’s non-profit, student run art gallery, continues its mission to enrich the community. Owned and sponsored by Kutztown University’s President, F. Javier Cevallos, the gallery featured events including a screening of “The Freemartin Calf,” and a performance by musicians Tye Vallone, Chris Burkholder, and Brendan Burke, according to co-director Megan Yoder.

Yoder explained that Eckhaus was founded in 2008. “There were many ideas for the space originally – a music venue, a coffee shop or an art gallery. An art gallery seemed to be the most realistic option and the space could also bring in music and special events,” said Yoder.
The University bought the space in 2011 and is acquiring a new PA system. “Purchasing a PA system would greatly benefit Eckhaus as a non-profit gallery. Any and all donations would be immensely appreciated,” said Yoder.

Eckhaus recently featured a series of mixed media and film photography called “Post,” by Tyler graduate Lewis Galli. The exhibition ended Nov. 2. The next showcase will be drawings and photographs by Tyler senior painter Olivia Menta entitled, “It’s My Life I’ll Do What I Want,” opening on Nov. 8. The gallery will host a holiday market event on Nov. 30. On Dec. 8, there will be a Christmas-themed student auction.
